The potential of stem cells in cartilage diseases has been investigated through extensive animal experiments, leading to the initiation of clinical applications in humans. However, the results of current human studies indicate that treatment efficacy is not yet fully sufficient. Questions still remain regarding the similarity of the regenerated cartilage tissue to its original structure and its long-term durability. Nevertheless, a generally higher quality tissue regeneration is observed.
