Heart valve disease, known as valve degeneration, valve thickening, valve calcification, valve prolapse, valve regurgitation, valve leakage, valve stenosis, and valve insufficiency, initially manifests as easy fatigue and shortness of breath during exercise. In advanced stages, these symptoms may occur even at rest. Some patients may be asymptomatic, with the condition only being detected during a routine medical examination by the presence of a heart murmur. Definite diagnosis of heart valve disease is made using echocardiography and catheterization (angiography).
