For a mole scan using digital dermatoscopy, the patient must be undressed. Microscopic images of all moles are taken by photographing the entire body from the front and back. In the second stage, the moles are marked and numbered, and microscopic images of each are taken and saved to the system. A specialized dermatologist reviews these images and decides whether to excise any suspicious lesions. If excision is not deemed necessary, the images are recorded, and the patient is monitored at regular intervals. If any adverse changes are detected during follow-up and these changes meet the criteria for lesion removal, excision is performed. Studies have shown that the follow-up and comparison capabilities of digital dermatoscopic examination increase the chance of early detection of malignant melanoma compared to mole monitoring with the naked eye.
