Congestive heart failure (CHF) is a condition where the heart muscle weakens or is damaged, preventing the heart from pumping enough blood to the body. This condition manifests as widespread fluid accumulation and edema in various organs such as the lungs, abdomen, and legs. CHF can affect the right or left side of the heart, or even both. Other diseases accompanying underlying heart failure can lead to further damage to the heart. Early diagnosis and treatment of congestive heart failure are critically important to prevent irreversible permanent damage.
