Orchitis refers to the inflammation of the testicles, typically caused by infection. While bacterial infections are the most common cause, viral agents, such as the mumps virus, can also lead to orchitis, albeit less frequently. This condition usually affects a single testicle but can occasionally involve both. Although more prevalent in adolescent and adult males, orchitis can also occur in children, particularly when associated with the mumps virus.
