Allergy immunotherapy (also known as allergy shots or desensitization) is a medical treatment designed to desensitize the immune system to specific allergens. It involves administering gradually increasing doses of the identified allergen to the patient over a period, allowing the immune system to build tolerance. This treatment may be considered when allergic diseases cannot be adequately controlled through conventional preventive measures and medical treatments, or when patients prefer to avoid long-term daily medication use.
