Nail tumors are abnormal growths that develop under or around the nail plate. They typically originate from the nail matrix, which is responsible for nail growth, or the nail bed, where the nail plate rests. While most of these tumors are benign, some can be malignant (cancerous). Nail tumors can occur on both fingernails and toenails, but they tend to appear most frequently on the thumbs and big toes. Tumors that cause significant nail deformity, structural changes (dystrophy), or discoloration may require surgical removal. The main types of benign nail tumors include: Myxoid tumors, Glomus tumors, Pyogenic granulomas, Onychomatricoma. The main types of malignant nail tumors include: Bowen's disease, Squamous cell carcinoma, Malignant melanoma.
