There is no definitive curative treatment for periodic fever syndromes; treatment typically focuses on symptom management and attack prevention. Steroids are used to alleviate symptoms such as fever and pharyngitis that occur during acute attacks. However, while a single dose of steroids resolves the symptoms of the current attack, it does not prevent subsequent attacks. Long-term treatment options aimed at reducing the frequency and severity of attacks include medications like colchicine and cimetidine. Furthermore, in some specific cases, tonsillectomy (surgical removal of the tonsils) can be effective in reducing or preventing the frequency of attacks.
