Telogen effluvium is a common type of hair loss that results from significant physiological changes or stress factors occurring in the body, such as stress, hormonal changes, medication use, malnutrition, pregnancy, and various systemic diseases. This condition is typically characterized by a general thinning of the hair and severe shedding. The normally three-phase hair growth cycle is disrupted by such triggering factors, leading to the early and synchronized entry of hair follicles into the resting (telogen) phase. As telogen effluvium is a symptom of an underlying condition or disease, identifying and addressing the fundamental cause of the hair loss is essential for effective treatment. It is generally a temporary condition, and hair regrowth is expected after the underlying cause is corrected.
