Chickenpox infection appears 7 to 21 days after exposure to the virus. New spots continue to appear for approximately 5-7 days, while the initial spots begin to crust over. Because new lesions continue to form while earlier ones are crusting, it takes up to 2 weeks for all spots to crust over.
