Bronchitis, in both its acute and chronic forms, can manifest with various symptoms. The most common symptoms of bronchitis include:
* Persistent Cough: It can often be productive (with phlegm) and may last for a long time.
* Phlegm: Sticky phlegm that is yellow, gray, or green in color and difficult to expel.
* Shortness of Breath: Increased difficulty breathing, especially during physical activity.
* Wheezing: A whistling sound heard during inhalation and exhalation, similar to wheezy breathing.
* Chest Discomfort/Tightness: Pain, pressure, or discomfort felt in the chest.
* Nasal Congestion or Runny Nose: Upper respiratory tract symptoms similar to a common cold.
* Sore Throat: Pain or itching in the throat that may arise due to irritation.
* Weakness and Fatigue: A general feeling of exhaustion in the body.
* Fever: Low-grade fever, particularly seen in acute bronchitis.
* Headache: Can be an accompanying general symptom.
In chronic bronchitis, cough and phlegm production are generally more prolonged and pronounced; rarely, more serious symptoms such as weight loss and loss of appetite may also be observed.
