Inguinal hernias in newborns and children typically result from a weakness in the abdominal wall, often present from birth. The hernia may become more prominent when intra-abdominal pressure increases, particularly when the baby cries, coughs, strains during bowel movements, or in older children, when standing for extended periods. Due to the discomfort caused by the hernia, infants may exhibit irritability and a reduced appetite.
