The HoLEP (Holmium Laser Enucleation of the Prostate) method offers several significant advantages:
1. Preservation of Urinary Control: During HoLEP surgery, the sphincter structure responsible for urinary retention remains outside the intervention area and is preserved. This significantly reduces the risk of postoperative urinary incontinence.
2. Preservation of Sexual Function: The depth of tissue penetration by HoLEP laser energy is very shallow. This characteristic prevents damage to the nerves that run outside the prostate and are crucial for erection (hardening); thus, the risk of postoperative sexual dysfunction is minimal.
3. Minimal Bleeding: During the operation, blood vessels nourishing the prostate tissue are instantly coagulated with laser energy, significantly reducing the amount of bleeding.
4. Low Recurrence Risk: Since almost the entire portion of the prostatic tissue outside the capsule is removed, the risk of disease recurrence is lower compared to traditional methods.
5. Rapid Recovery Process: After HoLEP, the duration of catheterization and hospital stay is shortened, allowing patients to return to their daily lives more quickly.
