In IVF treatment, the most reliable method for a pregnancy test after embryo transfer is a blood test, typically performed 10 to 12 days later, as recommended by the physician. Urine tests, being sensitive to a specific hormone level, can yield false-negative results in early pregnancy. For example, if the test's sensitivity threshold is high, it might show a negative result even if pregnancy exists, simply because the hormone level is below that threshold. Furthermore, visual interpretation of urine tests can also lead to errors. Another important point is that in a healthy early pregnancy, blood levels of the pregnancy hormone (hCG) approximately double every 48 hours. Monitoring this increase provides valuable information about the progression of the pregnancy. When the hCG value reaches approximately 2000 mIU/mL, the pregnancy is usually visible via ultrasonography.
