Premature ejaculation (PE) is classified into different types:
1. Lifelong (Primary) Premature Ejaculation: This type of premature ejaculation is consistently observed from the onset of sexual activity. It persists throughout the individual's sexual life and has a general prevalence of 2.3% to 3.2% in the general population, with its frequency in Turkey being around 2.5%.
2. Acquired Premature Ejaculation: This occurs when an individual, despite having experienced normal ejaculation duration in previous sexual encounters, begins to experience premature ejaculation at a certain point. This type affects approximately 3.9% to 4.8% of the general population and is observed at an average rate of 4% in Turkey.
3. Variable Premature Ejaculation: This is a condition where the individual experiences periods of premature ejaculation and normal ejaculation in a fluctuating pattern. It is the most common form of premature ejaculation, with a general prevalence ranging from 8.5% to 11.4%, and an average of 8% to 8.5% in Turkey.
4. Subjective Premature Ejaculation (Anxiety about Premature Ejaculation Despite Normal Ejaculation Duration): This category refers to situations where an individual, despite having a normal ejaculation duration, harbors a perception or anxiety about premature ejaculation due to cultural or psychological factors. This anxiety exists even though there is no actual ejaculatory dysfunction. It is observed in 5.1% to 6.4% of the general population, with a frequency of around 5% in Turkey.
