Trismus, commonly known as 'jaw lock,' is a condition characterized by the inability to fully open the mouth due to damage to the facial and jaw muscles and nerves. This condition significantly impairs essential functions such as eating, speaking, and maintaining oral hygiene, thereby negatively impacting daily quality of life. Common causes of trismus include dental abscesses, infections, and trauma. Furthermore, joint disorders, musculoskeletal problems, and radiotherapy administered to the head and neck region are also significant etiological factors. Accurate diagnosis of the underlying cause and the implementation of appropriate treatment strategies are crucial for managing this condition.
