Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that originates in the cervix, the lower part of the uterus. Its primary cause is persistent Human Papillomavirus (HPV) infection. Globally, approximately 500,000 new cases of cervical cancer are diagnosed each year. While generally observed in women around the age of 50, an increase in incidence among younger women has been noted in recent years.
