Piriformis Syndrome arises when the piriformis muscle, located deep in the buttock, irritates or compresses the nearby sciatic nerve. This irritation typically develops as a result of muscle spasms, inflammation, or injuries to the piriformis muscle or surrounding tissues. This pressure on the sciatic nerve can lead to pain, numbness, and tingling in the buttock and down the leg. Swelling and tension may also accompany the condition.

The primary causes and contributing factors for Piriformis Syndrome include:
* Inflammation of the piriformis muscle or surrounding tissues
* Muscle spasms due to overexertion
* Formation of scar tissue in the muscle
* Prolonged sedentary sitting
* Intense or excessive exercise
* Overdoing repetitive activities such as running, walking, or cycling
* Stair climbing
* Improper lifting of heavy objects
* Traumatic events like car accidents or hard falls
* Sudden twisting or spraining of the hip
* Previous surgical interventions in or around the hip region
