Primary spinal cord tumors generally do not metastasize to other parts of the body. However, some brain tumors, particularly those seen in childhood, can spread to the spinal cord via cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). This differs from the metastatic behavior of tumors originating within the spinal cord itself; distant metastasis is quite rare for primary spinal cord tumors.
