Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy (ESWT) is an effective method used in the treatment of heel pain. Contrary to a common misconception, this treatment does not physically break the bone spur ("heel spur") seen on X-rays. During ESWT sessions, the primary goal is to stimulate the non-healing tissue that causes heel pain in a controlled manner, thereby increasing blood flow to the area and accelerating natural healing processes. This procedure involves applying approximately 2000-3000 high-energy sound waves to the affected region, which initiates micro-trauma and increased blood supply, activating the body's self-repair mechanisms. Most patients suffering from heel spurs can achieve successful results from ESWT treatment.
