Agoraphobia is a severe anxiety disorder characterized by an excessive and irrational fear, triggered by the concern that an individual might feel trapped or unable to escape from a particular place. This condition generates intense fear and anxiety in environments where help or escape is perceived to be difficult. Common examples of such environments include waiting in line at a bank or supermarket checkout, sitting in the middle of a long row in a theater or classroom, and using public transportation such as buses or airplanes. Common situations that can trigger fear in individuals with agoraphobia include: Crowded or enclosed spaces, Open and distant areas, Being away from home.
