A dental bridge is a type of fixed dental prosthesis designed to fill the gaps left by missing teeth due to various reasons, typically anchored between two healthy teeth. This treatment method is a frequently preferred and effective solution aimed at restoring chewing function, improving speech, and providing an aesthetic smile.
During the treatment process, the natural teeth on either side of the missing tooth (abutment teeth) are specially prepared to support the bridge; this usually involves carefully reducing the teeth. Subsequently, the bridge prosthesis, consisting of the abutment teeth and the artificial tooth(teeth) that close the gap, is cemented onto these prepared teeth.
Bridges are generally fabricated from high-quality materials such as porcelain or porcelain-fused-to-metal to ensure durability and a natural appearance. With detailed measurements taken by dentists, the bridge prosthesis is custom-designed to suit the patient's oral structure and bite. The goal is to provide the most aesthetically pleasing and functional result, closely resembling natural teeth.
