Dental bridge treatment is applied using three main methods to replace missing teeth: Traditional bridges, Maryland (Adhesive/Winged) bridges, and Implant-Supported bridges.
Traditional Bridge Method: In this method, the healthy adjacent teeth on both sides of the missing tooth are prepared (reduced in size) to support the bridge prosthesis. These prepared teeth serve as abutments for the bridge, which is then cemented onto crowns placed over them.
Maryland (Adhesive/Winged) Bridge Method: The prosthesis replacing the missing tooth is fixed by bonding it to the adjacent teeth using metal or porcelain wings. In this method, no cutting or grinding of the adjacent teeth is required. Due to the retention provided by bonding, its strength is generally lower compared to traditional bridges, and it is typically preferred for specific situations in areas with less biting force.
Implant-Supported Bridge Method: The bridge prosthesis is directly fixed onto dental implants placed into the jawbone, replacing the missing tooth or teeth. This method eliminates the need to cut or damage adjacent natural teeth. Applied depending on the patient's jawbone structure suitability, this method offers a long-lasting and aesthetic solution, particularly in cases of multiple tooth loss.
