Bone marrow is most densely found in the pelvis (hip) bone of the body. For transplantation, bone marrow collection is usually performed from this region, under general anesthesia and in a sterile environment. Special needles are used to safely collect the dense marrow. After the procedure, the donor can typically be discharged after 24 hours of observation.
