Post-tracheostomy tracheal surgery may not be needed in every patient. Tracheal stenosis can develop depending on the duration of tracheostomy and the inflation pressure of the tracheostomy cannula. Not every tracheostomy requires tracheal surgery. However, if the stenosis compromises the patient's comfort and/or breathing, then surgery may be necessary.
