Radiofrequency rhizotomy (RF) is a treatment performed under local anesthesia. In this method, similar to balloon compression, nerve transmission is modulated by creating a controlled thermal lesion in the pain nerves. The efficacy of RF is comparable to that of balloon compression; however, due to the permanent lesion it creates in the nerve, potential complication rates can be higher.
