Tuberculosis (TB) is a contagious lung disease transmitted through airborne droplets released when an infected person coughs, sneezes, speaks, or sings. For transmission to occur, the tuberculosis bacteria must be active in the person's body. An individual with active tuberculosis spreads microbe-containing droplets into the air through these actions. Another person in close proximity can become infected by inhaling these droplets.
