The treatment approach for rectocele varies based on its severity. For mild rectoceles, pelvic floor exercises are often recommended to strengthen the supporting muscles. In cases of moderate to severe prolapse, surgical intervention may be considered. The decision for surgery takes into account several factors, including the patient's age, overall health, the degree of prolapse, and any future pregnancy plans. A common surgical procedure for rectocele is posterior colporrhaphy. During this procedure, the surgeon removes damaged tissue that no longer adequately supports the pelvic organs and then sutures healthy tissue together to provide enhanced structural support.
