To diagnose Somatic Symptom Disorder, the following criteria must be met:
A. One or more physical symptoms that cause significant distress or result in significant impairment in daily life functioning.
B. In connection with the somatic symptom(s), the presence of at least one of the following thought, feeling, or behavior patterns:
* Persistent and excessive thoughts disproportionate to the seriousness of the symptoms.
* A persistently high level of anxiety about health or the somatic symptoms.
* Excessive time and effort devoted to these symptoms or health concerns.
C. Even if a specific somatic symptom is not continuously present, being symptomatically ill intermittently for at least 6 months.
How is psychosomatic symptom disorder (Somatoform disorder) diagnosed?
A. One or more physical symptoms that cause significant distress or result in significant impairment in daily life functioning.
B. In connection with the somatic symptom(s), the presence of at least one of the following thought, feeling, or behavior patterns:
* Persistent and excessive thoughts disproportionate to the seriousness of the symptoms.
* A persistently high level of anxiety about health or the somatic symptoms.
* Excessive time and effort devoted to these symptoms or health concerns.
C. Even if a specific somatic symptom is not continuously present, being symptomatically ill intermittently for at least 6 months.
