Polysomnography is conducted in specially designed sleep laboratories within healthcare institutions. According to standards published by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) in 2007, specific areas for the placement of electrodes and sensors required for polysomnography have been determined. Depending on the physician's clinical assessment, the number of electrodes and sensors can be increased or decreased as needed. The patient stays overnight in this dedicated laboratory environment, and all physiological data are meticulously recorded. These rooms, designed with patient comfort in mind, are quiet, sufficiently spacious, and equipped with private toilet and bathroom facilities. A technician meticulously monitors the patient's data from an observation room throughout the night and is positioned to intervene immediately in case of any issues or needs.
