For patients suspected of having Pick's disease, an initial assessment involves physical and neurological examinations. To establish a definitive diagnosis and differentiate frontotemporal dementia (FTD) from other conditions, various imaging tests are employed. Based on the results of these tests, a patient may be diagnosed with behavioral variant FTD (bvFTD) or one of the subtypes of primary progressive aphasia (PPA). Key diagnostic tools used for FTD include blood tests, cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis, computed tomography (CT) scans, electroencephalograms (EEG), genetic testing, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), and Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scans.
