The diagnosis of Parkinson's disease is established based on the patient's detailed clinical history and a comprehensive neurological examination. In the differential diagnosis, drug side effects that mimic Parkinson's disease, referred to as "Parkinsonism," must always be considered. Additional tests such as blood biochemistry and MRI imaging can also be utilized to support the diagnostic process.

Currently, the Dat-Scan method plays a significant role, greatly facilitating the diagnosis of Parkinson's, especially in its early stages. This advanced imaging technique, developed in recent years, uses dopamine labeled with a radioactive substance to show the density and distribution of active dopaminergic cells in the brain. In Turkey, it has been applied in specific centers since 2018 with the approval of the Ministry of Health.
