The Non-Stress Test (NST) utilizes a device called a cardiotocograph. The NST procedure typically involves the following steps:
Two separate probes are placed on the expectant mother's abdomen: one to monitor the baby's heart rate and the other to detect uterine contractions.
The mother-to-be is provided with a button to press each time she perceives fetal movement.
Over approximately 20 minutes, the cardiotocograph continuously records and documents the baby's heart rate changes and any uterine activity.
