There is no specific antiviral treatment for chickenpox. Treatment involves supportive measures aimed at alleviating the symptoms of the disease. In case of fever, appropriate antipyretic medications can be used under a doctor's advice. For the skin rashes, topical creams or lotions are recommended to help reduce itching and soothe the skin. Unless a secondary bacterial infection develops, chickenpox rashes usually do not leave permanent scars. Throughout the disease process, spontaneous recovery is expected with symptomatic treatment. The rashes will eventually scab over, dry, and disappear completely.
