The AST (Aspartate Aminotransferase) test is an important blood test used to assess liver damage. This test is requested for the detection of liver conditions and the planning of appropriate treatment. Typically, this test requires no special preparation and is performed using a blood sample taken from the arm. The measured AST enzyme activity is not sufficient for diagnosis alone; it is generally evaluated in conjunction with other liver enzyme tests, such as ALT (Alanine Aminotransferase).
