If a mole has changed in surface, size, or shape; if bleeding, scabbing, or itching has begun; if the mole is asymmetrical or has irregular borders; or if the mole displays multiple colors such as light or dark brown, black, blue, and red, and is larger than 5 mm in diameter, a dermatologist should be consulted.
