Tetanus vaccination during pregnancy offers dual protection: antibodies developed by the mother are transferred to the baby, safeguarding both from tetanus disease. The Ministry of Health recommends the Td (tetanus-diphtheria) vaccine for all pregnant individuals who were not vaccinated in childhood, whose vaccination status is unknown or incomplete, or who have been fully vaccinated but have not received a booster dose within the last 10 years. For those who have never been vaccinated, a minimum of two Td doses should be administered, spaced four weeks apart, with the second dose completed at least two weeks before the expected delivery date. In regions where adult tetanus immunity rates are low, maternal vaccination plays a crucial role in preventing neonatal tetanus.
