Dental misalignments can be effectively treated at any age. However, skeletal discrepancies, such as significant jaw positioning issues (e.g., prognathism, retrognathism) or an underdeveloped upper jaw, are ideally addressed before the completion of adolescence for optimal results. In adulthood, the correction of these skeletal problems often requires comprehensive surgical interventions, referred to as orthognathic surgery. To potentially avoid the need for such complex treatments, a child's initial orthodontic assessment is highly recommended around the age of 7 to 8.
