Hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) is primarily examined in two main types: primary hyperhidrosis and secondary hyperhidrosis.
* Primary Hyperhidrosis: This is a condition of excessive sweating not attributable to a specific medical cause. It typically begins at a young age, often under 20, and is more common in women. This condition, which can occur at different times of the day, generally constitutes suitable candidates for Endoscopic Thoracic Sympathectomy (ETS) surgery.
* Secondary Hyperhidrosis: In this type, excessive sweating develops due to an underlying medical condition, medication, or another external factor. Examples include hormonal changes, certain medications, food consumption, infections, or metabolic diseases. For the treatment of secondary hyperhidrosis, it is essential to first identify and treat the underlying cause, and patients with this condition are generally not suitable for ETS surgery.
