Rectal cancer, like colon cancer, is a preventable type of cancer. Most cases of rectal cancer develop from benign polyps that emerge on the wall of the rectum. Early detection and removal of these polyps through colonoscopy significantly reduce the risk of rectal cancer. Considering familial risk factors, regular rectal cancer screenings are vitally important, especially for individuals aged 45-50 and older. Colonoscopy is the most reliable and effective method in this screening process.
