Turbinate hypertrophy is primarily observed in individuals with allergic predispositions. However, it can also occur independently of allergies. In some cases, the presence of a nasal septal deviation (a curvature of the cartilage and bone within the nose) can also contribute to this condition. For example, if the septum deviates to the left, the turbinate on the right side may enlarge compensatorily. This compensatory enlargement is a physiological adaptation.
