A bone marrow biopsy is typically performed under sedation, meaning the vast majority of patients do not experience any pain or discomfort during the procedure. If the procedure is carried out under local anesthesia, the patient might feel a slight pressure, a pulling sensation, or a brief, mild pain as the needle advances. Following the biopsy, it is common to experience mild bone pain in the area where the procedure was performed. Such pain can usually be easily managed with over-the-counter pain relievers and typically resolves on its own within a few days.
