Diaphragmatic elevation, or medically known as diaphragmatic eventration, refers to a condition where the diaphragm is abnormally high and unable to perform its contractile function fully. This condition is often associated with thinning or weakening of the diaphragmatic muscle. Primary causes include obesity and other factors that increase intra-abdominal pressure. Diagnosis can be made with a chest X-ray. It is considered a normal anatomical variation for the right diaphragm to be 1-2 cm higher than the left diaphragm.
