Bone marrow aspiration and biopsy are typically performed from the iliac crests of the pelvic bone, particularly from the posterior aspect. If necessary, samples can also be taken from the anterior iliac crest. For bone marrow aspiration, in addition to the iliac crests, the sternum (breastbone) can also be considered as an alternative site; however, bone marrow biopsy is generally not performed from the sternum.
