TOETVA (Transoral Endoscopic Thyroidectomy Vestibular Approach) is a scarless thyroid surgery performed through the mouth. Due to its transoral nature, maintaining excellent oral hygiene is paramount before the procedure. Suboptimal oral hygiene can increase the risk of postoperative tissue infection from oral bacteria. Consequently, diligent oral and dental care significantly reduces the likelihood of such complications. For high-risk patients, particularly those with diabetes or cardiovascular conditions, a comprehensive dental check-up and necessary care are advised one month prior to TOETVA surgery. Patients should use a chlorhexidine-based mouthwash three times daily starting before the surgery, continuing this regimen for 5-7 days post-operatively.
