Hysterosalpingography (HSG), commonly known as a uterine film or uterine imaging procedure, is typically performed a few days after the end of the menstrual period, when the uterus is least prone to bleeding. The patient is prepared in the gynecological examination position. The physician gently inserts a speculum into the cervix, and then a thin catheter is advanced through the cervical canal into the uterine cavity. A specialized contrast agent is injected into the uterine cavity via this catheter. This injected substance allows for detailed X-ray imaging of the uterus and fallopian tubes. The X-ray device captures structural details of the uterus and tubes, helping to detect possible abnormalities or blockages. The procedure is generally short and carried out on an outpatient basis.
