Echocardiography (heart ultrasound) in children follows principles similar to those for adults but is adapted to meet the specific needs of children. The procedure is performed in rooms equipped with child-friendly materials designed to engage and comfort them. This method involves no radiation or pain, but it is important for your child to wear comfortable, easily removable clothing. The colors seen on the echocardiography screen indicate the direction of blood flow and are not a cause for concern. During this examination, the dimensions and wall thickness of the heart chambers are measured, and the function of the heart valves is assessed. Additionally, important information such as structural abnormalities of the heart, fluid accumulation around the heart, cardiac masses, heart movement, valve shape, stenoses, and regurgitations can be detected.
