Sleeve gastrectomy is primarily a surgical method used in the treatment of morbid obesity. Many comorbidities accompanying morbid obesity, including type 2 diabetes, significantly benefit from this surgical intervention. However, when the main goal is the control of type 2 diabetes rather than obesity management, bypass group surgeries generally yield more successful results. Additionally, sleeve gastrectomy can be applied as a preparatory stage for more comprehensive bypass surgeries in severely obese patients.
