Tumors are fundamentally divided into two categories: benign and malignant. Benign tumors generally grow more slowly, do not spread to surrounding tissues, and do not metastasize to distant organs. In contrast, malignant tumors tend to grow more rapidly and have the potential to metastasize to regional lymph nodes and distant organs such as the lungs, liver, brain, and bones.
