Enlargement of mediastinal lymph nodes refers to the abnormal swelling of lymph nodes located deep within the chest cavity, between the heart, major blood vessels, and lungs, surrounding the trachea (windpipe) and bronchi. Generally, these lymph nodes are considered normal up to 1 cm in diameter; a diameter greater than 1 cm is classified as lymphadenopathy (lymph node enlargement).
